Ancestral Whirlwind: Percussive Music by Súle Greg Wilson - DIGITAL DOWNLOAD
In Fall of 1998, prior to flying across the Pond to spend a month in Northern Ireland on an arts residency, Súle went into the studio with family and friends to create an album that evokes the breadth and feeling of one his live, acoustic shows. Utilizing conch trumpet, udu, djembe & dunun, calabash, shekere, banjo, body, and didjeridu, in Ancestral Whirlwind we have an album that encompasses Native invocation; African songs of slavery; US story and song of the Middle Passage and Ibo's Landingl; Cuban rhythms on Ibo ceramic drums; Gospel tunes; Sea Island body percussion; even a little acoustic hip-hop, and an Aboriginal benediction.
"This music is about marriage: the spiritual joining of intent and actualization, the melding of movement and energy, the merging of the spirits of these musics' traditions, the union of Those Here with Those Beyond. We work to bring us all into that. Amen, em Hetep. Súle Greg Wilson, October, 1998"
